In early 2014 a small group in the village decided to support the national campaign run by Plantlife to try and maintain Britain’s road side verges as habitats for our rapidly declining wild flowers. Regular botanical surveys of selected verges have been carried out by a group of local volunteers - The Vergers (!). Another group including representatives of the Abbots Leigh Wildlife Group, The Parish Council and the Civic Society have been taking the campaign forward to influence North Somerset Council to change its mowing practice to be more wildflower-friendly.
